It’s January and I still have pumpkins in the pantry.
That sounds like a euphemism for something but I mean real pumpkins.
Aren’t they pretty?
And then I made some chili with ‘em.
And by “I”, I mean my husband.
Notice how when you don’t have a good photo of something you have to rely on trickery and deceit.
And by trickery and deceit I mean graphics.
Onto the surfin’…
It’s been a busy week on the interwebs, what with Anderson Cooper inciting mommy riots and such. LAME.
- People tell me to enjoy every single moment of parenting because it all goes by so fast and this is exactly how I feel about that.
- Great tips on making a family photo album.
- One of my favorite blogs, Enjoying the Small things is doing a fundraiser for the National Down Syndrome Society.
- Am I the only kid that had no desire to pee in the ocean?
- I know this is an old post but if you haven’t read it before it’s an excellent perspective on stay at home, working moms and how the grass is always greener on the other side.
- My lil sis (like from a sorority and everything) wrote this article on body image and it’s fabulous, read it.
- Some excellent advice on how to write from a place of authenticity without worrying about your critics.

That looks yummy. Both the links and the chili. Off to read…
Happy weekend. xo
You need to read this one http://hellogiggles.com/remember-when-you-had-your-cake-ate-it-and-didnt-feel-bad-about-it? in particular. It might make you cry.
Pumpkin chili! Wow, that’s different, and it looks delicious.
It really is! I’m not that big of a fan of pumpkin but adding it to chili makes the chili all velvety and delicious. Here’s an awesome recipe to try http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/11/black-bean-pumkin-soup/
Thank you so much for including me here, Yuliya.
And thank you for always writing from a place of honesty…for showing us the real Yuliya.
That is just one of the kajillion reasons why I love you.
xoxo
I don’t know any other way to be! Except when I get rich and famous then I will probably start having to lead a secret life or something
I’ve never heard of pumpkin chili.
Here is the recipe I was inspired by http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/11/black-bean-pumkin-soup/
nope, no one else. just you and your refusal to use nature’s potty.
(thanks for including me — pumpkin chili impresses me)
Thanks so much for including my post here, Yulia. Honored!
Great list. Some of those are new to me, so I’m off to read!
Wonderful round up…and pumpkin chili? Who knew? xoxo
I just love recommendations from people whose judgment I trust.
Thank you.
Because I know your selections take time and are thoughtful.
Off to read and enjoy…
Yum, I want me some pumpkin chili! (pregnant women should stop looking at food pictures in blogs)
OMG I forgot the pumpkin chili because the Anderson clips have me FUMING. I must forget them as the opinions of two women I would not want to be friends with (not because they work but because they judge what they don’t understand). Except I’m shaking with rage.
The grass is greener indeed. The book The Mask Of motherhood does a good job (as does Mojo Mom as does Perfect Madness) of talking about how there is no better, there is no greener, hell, there is no grass. It’s all cactus barely getting by. Thanks for the links, though. I enjoy the reminder that you have to do what’s best for you (even though none of us really believes that. We have to do what’s best for our families, and there aren’t always as many choices as we’d like.)
That’s the key right there, and I can’t believe I haven’t been able to put it into words…”there aren’t always as many choices as we’d like” YES YES YES That’s exactly my issue.
Do you mean to tell me that you didn’t know about the Anderson Cooper brew ha ha until this post? Because if that’s the case, I’m sorry to have ruined a perfectly good day for you. Sigh. Only happy news from now on!
I did not know about the uproar until now, no. (Mumbles something about a media blackout as part of 2012 resolutions to write more, but then realizes she’d have to explain why she’s reading blogs instead of writing…) Certainly not your fault for pointing me there. What I don’t get, really, is why the two, hardly a representative sample, working outside the home moms were so quick to judge, but the three, hardly a representative sample, working without pay moms reacted without attacking. I’m a bit mad at Cooper, I must say. At least he seemed to have some grasp of how inappropriate it is to judge someone whose job is different than yours.
Pumpkins in the pantry certainly does sound like a euphemism, but more for plastic surgery . . . “I hear Chandra went under the knife.”
“Oh, yeah, I saw . . . she has some pumpkins up in the pantry now.”
All that said, I’ve always used canned pumpkin . . . I think I need to break myself of this, but I’ve just been too intimidated to cook with gourds.
That is hysterical!
And do try it, pumpkins are cheaper whole and then you get to have the yummy seeds too!
