Saturday Surf and Turf

What happens when you miss three weeks of your weekly (ahem) wrap up of ‘what’s on the internets’ post? You have a lot of things to share that happened eight hundred and twenty seven fruit fly generations ago.

Like this, I know everyone is probably so over the Royal Wedding by now but I just loved this sweet look at back at Queen Elizabeth II’s love story.

Less time sensitive is this little tid-bit. (Does tid-bit sound dirty to anyone else?) People always ask me if Russia is the same thing as Ukraine, umm no they’re different countries but when I lived there they were all part of the Soviet Union so when I came to America and Ukraine ceceded from the Soviet Union I was left with a very confusing ethnic identity.  I still don’t know who to root for in the Olympics! But some people have no trouble with identity and feel very passionately that they are one and not the other, and that can lead to all kinds of fighting. (Thanks Vicki for this link)

Can you ever get enough blogging tips? I know I can’t, so here are some awesome ones courtesy of one of my favorite wedding blogs (from back in the day when I was an event planner.)

Do you have food sensitives? I know I do…either that or I’m (sporadically) a raging bitch for no good reason…and I’d like to think there’s a reason.

Who else was a fan of Roseanne? Read what the woman herself has to say about the show and the fame monster.

That KludgyMom, Gigi, you know the one who claims she’s NOT a writer? She’s kind of a big fat liar! (This was a beautifully written post about her son)

And last but not least, something timely! For fantastic father’s day gift ideas look no further than right here!

Onto the turfin’

Being the incomparably lazy human being that I am, I don’t even have a recipe for you today. Just a link to an AWESOME mushroom recipe and proof that once upon a time I actually made this soup for myself.

See you next week! (Or you know next time I get my Surfin’ and Turfin’ booty in gear)

  1. Love the Soviet spoon :) There is no division there. No matter what republic you’re from, you’ll most likely have the same Soviet spoon:)

Oh those spoons! Do you have parents have stories of how they acquired their silverware? Oy! But this spoon in particular is a stowaway in our home and is the only one of it’s kind…no clue how it got here or who it belongs to.

  2. At least Russia and Ukraine have fairytales to fight over in the first place. We don’t have any of our own in America, we pretty much stole all of ours from Germans and Danes.

    • Yuliya says:

I love the you have internalized the “America has no culture” position that us immigrants love to perpetuate :)

  3. I love wrap ups – works for lazy asses like me who might have missed something and this way, I don’t miss out on much :)

Did you take that photo? It’s gorgeous.

    • Yuliya says:

Wrap ups are fun, I am glad you liked them! And yes I did take the photo…if I don’t create the recipe the least I can do is take some pictures of the final product.

  4. nichole says:

    Oh, that soup. Pure heaven.
    Just like you.

    • Yuliya says:

That soup is AMAZING, I wholeheartedly support anything and everything by Smitten Kitchen…but that soup may be the best thing on her site! Go make it! Today!

  5. Morgan B. says:

Thanks for the shout out girlfriend! I still don’t know what you are getting your husband though. The crying baby doll (although you already have one of those), the Abhancer? Do tell! ;)
