It is a rare treat having a weekend to ourselves these days (love ya Mom but really how can I miss you if you won’t go away?) Faced with such a weekend we were beside ourselves with the possibilities, cleaning? yard work? re-organizing the pantry? Alas I was outvoted (damn dog) and we settled on the ever popular do-nothing-and-eat-a-lot-a thon.
Stan the man (trying out a new hubby moniker, what do we think?) whipped up a batch of delightful gluten free waffles with some locally grown blackberries on top (we all know why locally grown is extra delicious right?)
Then we recreated the magic that was last week’s “shashliki“, commence to drool please.
And grilled up some more local goodness.
Is this not sexy corn? My God I could not stop drooling long enough to take a picture of it. I had no idea how photogenic corn was, I mean baby shmaby LOOK at this corn!
Alright I’ll stop before I need an intervention, so I’ll end with some gorgeous, locally grown nectarines…
We also survived a quick and “impromptu” trip to the beach (read: two and a half hours of packing, – a stroller, a diaper bag, a beach bag, some chairs, debate to buy a beach umbrella, a cooler full of leftovers, two books-yes I was being funny… book +baby? chuckle chuckle, a forty minute drive turned seventy minutes thanks to moronic traffic, a nearly packed Sand Harbor, a babysitter for the dog, no really a friggin babysitter for the dog, and fielding countless phone calls to grandparents, “Vat you took zee baby to zee beach alone? Are you mishegena?”)
I would insert a picture of the baby, but let’s face it she’s no corn.

1) I like Stan the Man only because Mr. B is often called something extremely similar.
2) i hate you and your photogenic vegetables and shashlik. because now I want some. Do you guys marinate for forever? That’s my dad’s secret, apparently.
3) I always imagined babies were really portable but I guess not? Herculean effort and props to you guys!
re:1) Thank you Stan the Man is officially under consideration.
re:2) Aw yes they iz delicious! And the trick is to marinate for 48 hours, we only did 24 so it was half as good as my dad’s, also my dad swears by these “Georgian spices” so I gotta get some of those!
re:3) I think they are as portable as you make them out to be, ours has a fair share of shmati but there were people with portable cribs at the beach, I mean is that really necessary?
Very tasty looking food!
Thank you doll!
Sounds like a swell weekend! Thanks for introducing me to the wonders of corn photography; I too had no idea.
I would suggest one smallish change to the new hubby handle: how about Stan The Man. Seems a fella that awesome deserves multiple capital letters.
We went to the beach too, but the west shore (north? north-west? dunno.) It is a longish dog beach you can see from the road if you travel past Sunnyside when heading west around the lake from Tahoe City. It is covered in stones rather than sand, but I sort of prefer it as you come away with less grit in kiddie britches. Anyway, it might be a destination to consider one day as the crowds are much thinner and bouncy doggies are welcome. And The water was glorious.
Seriously corn is dead sexy.
How about STM for short, or Mr.STM?
Next time you tell me about beach, ve go viz you? Iz nice?
I love your blog. I love your writing, your quips, your slice of life, your photos, your layout, your clean look.
I wish I knew to do what you do.
I love your blog so very much.
Do you know how awesome it is the very first time someone sees it and the fine first impression it makes? I’ve subscribed but it won’t show up on my google reader. I’ve subscribed again just now.
I hate to lose track of you. Thank you for coming over so I could find you again. I don’t know why I can’t get you to show up. But, maybe now, b/c I’ve done it again.
This is serious blogging stuff over here.
I want to be you when I get some brains and apply them.

I am so very humbled by your kind words. Once again you have hundreds of comments on that post and you still take the time out to visit and encourage those of us not nearly as awesome as you. That is why I blog, because I relish the community input and well because frankly my husband has heard it all and my kid doesn’t care yet
First, I am queen of sitting around and doing nothing except eating. Nothing beats it, really. Especially when you have fresh, delicious grilled summertime favorites. Yum. We have this kickin’ farmer’s market near me which I try and get to – the food is so good. Second, I see you’ve found Alexandra (or she’s found you). Life just doesn’t get any better in the blogging world when this happens. She will be your friend and mentor.
Lasty, I see I’m in your sidebar – thank you! I will add you to mine right now – it’s all about bloggy reciprocity, baby!
I don’t know what I have done to appease the Gods but I have found amazing people already, you and Alexandra among them. I can’t even remember how I came across your blog but I’m so glad I did! I hope everyone that reads my blog (which lets face it isn’t a whole heck of a lot of people) will meander over to yours, because you are hilarious and awesome.
Let’s face it, she’s no corn!!! It was impossible to read that and try to not laugh and wake my baby. Thanks for the smile, Y!
Now that is quite a compliment, thank you!
Gorgeous. It’s really hard to compete with corn, photogenrically speaking.
I feel like I should start a revolution, or make t-shirts or something…thanks for visiting Marinka!
Your last two sentences have me rolling!!
Rolling through an imaginary corn meadow I hope
